Galathea 3 In August 2006, the ship Vædderen set sail from Copenhagen on an expedition to circumnavigate the Earth. During the eight-month voyage, more than 60 different research projects were conducted, the majority of which were studying the oceans.
Galathea 3 stamps To mark the Galathea 3 expedition, Post Danmark issued two stamps featuring motifs of the floating research platform. The DKK 4.75 stamp depicts the ship sailing around the world on a sea full of plants and marine animals. The DKK 7.25 stamp shows the expedition route, which stretches for 40,000 nautical miles.
